Burguffeln, the village and the land around it

Burguffeln first appears in the records in 965, as “ufloun”. Where the castle of the lords of Uffeln once stood, St Margareta’s church stands today — the churchyard with its old trees is within sight of the houses.

The Suderbach stream runs right through the village; in summer the geese stroll along its banks. The late-medieval Lindenmühle hosts concerts every month.

The Reinhardswald Nature Park begins at the doorstep, in the middle of the German Fairy Tale Route: the Sababurg — Sleeping Beauty’s castle — with Europe’s oldest animal park (founded 1571), the Sababurg primeval forest with pasture oaks over 600 years old, Rapunzel’s Trendelburg.

Grebenstein itself is a half-timbered town with a town wall and a castle ruin. Kassel is around 20 kilometres away, Immenhausen station around two.
